Legendary Australian electronic music and arts collective Clan Analogue take over Bar 303 in Northcote for a weekend of underground electronica during the Melbourne Fringe Festival, from Friday the 23rd to Sunday the 25th of September.
Friday 23rd of September: Kill Climate Deniers
Clan Analogue’s Electronic Weekend at 303 begins on Friday 23rd of September, at 8pm, with Kill Climate Deniers, a multimedia theatrical show launching the new concept album of the same name by Canberra artists Reuben Ingall and David Finnigan.
Kill Climate Deniers is a barrage of dancefloor bangers, in the style of classic House and Techno from 1988-92, mixed with samples from Finnigan’s original stage-play of the same name. It tells the story of an explosive attack on Parliament House by a group of eco-terrorists during a Fleetwood Mac concert and the Environment Minister’s one-woman war to take her country back. The result is an anthemic club album threaded through with blistering political satire.
Kill Climate Deniers masterminds Reuben Ingall and David Finnigan will be joined at Bar 303 by special guests KOshowKO and Iubar for a night that blends theatre, storytelling, electronic music performance and a dancefloor-ready mix of classic tunes.
Saturday 24th of September: Analogue Redux
On Saturday the 24th of September from 6pm, Clan Analogue’s presence at 303 continues with Analogue Redux, an evening celebrating the voltage-driven intensity of analogue hardware and live electronic musicianship. The night launches the new Analogue Redux: Hardware Explorations compilation album and gets going early at 6pm with an open jam session. All are welcome to bring electronic music gear and join in the sonic mayhem.
From 8pm onwards a selection of Melbourne’s best electronic music performers will play short sets ‘in the round’ on the floor of Bar 303, with artists including Random Acts of Elevator Music, Miles Cosmo, Wonderfeel, BluNjin, Cocoon, Ming, Damian Tangram and headlining act Black Lung. Get yourself a seat for the best close-up view of knob-twiddling you’ll see in the Fringe this decade.
Sunday 25th of September: Michael Mildren’s Music Non-Stop
Sunday the 25th of September will close Clan Analogue’s mini-festival with the most epic event of all. Veteran synth virtuoso Michael Mildren will set a new Fringe record with Music Non-Stop, a 12-hour marathon of continuous live improvised electronic music, from midday to midnight.
Michael Mildren will be joined by his son Max, a vast array of analogue and vintage electronic music gear and a selection of guest artists, including Steve Law, Andrew Duffield, Steve Williams, Chris Rule and Michael Sheridan. Join them on an epic sonic and artistic journey inspired by classic German 1970s “Krautrock” improv artists like Can and Tangerine Dream. Drop-in or drop out, this happening will be in the best traditions of experimental electronic music and is guaranteed never to be repeated!
