Doctrinaire

Doctrinaire is a production name used by Brisbane electronic musician/DJ Jody Smith, who began as a DJ in Lismore in 1988 and has since spun vinyl from Byron Bay to Coffs Harbour to Brisbane.

Jody presented The Big Mix, a 3-hour Saturday night dance music show on 2NCR-FM Lismore from 1988 to 1992. He got seriously into producing in 2001. His love of 80s dance and electronica was evident in his early productions under the name HSP. During the early 2000s, Jody also produced Latin techno tracks under the name Panic Room.

As Doctrinaire, Jody’s current productions incorporate elements of dub, hip hop, dancehall, world music and electronica. The Doctrinaire remix of ‘r.E.f.r.E.s.h’ by Itch-E & Scratch-E was personally endorsed by the duo.
